In its fourth year, Fat Brain Toys is hosting the Fat Brain Toy Awards to recognize the best-of-the-best in specialty toys. A Fat Brain Toy Award recognizes toy manufacturers who have heeded the call to produce quality toys, games, and gifts for our children. Industry veteran Arete Passas has joined plush manufacturer Zoobies as CEO.

Passas has extensive consumer goods and toy experience, having worked at Proctor & Gamble, Crayola, Scholastic, and Mattel. She is also the former CEO of Manhattan Toy Company. Passas has also served as a director on the Board of Toy Industry Association and chaired the committee for the Annual ToyCon industry conference. Zoobies is very excited to welcome Arete to the team!

The 2010 Toy Fair marks the 3 year anniversary for Zoobies, the award winning plush animals that turn into pillows and blankets. Since their launch at the 2007 Toy Fair they've won 45 industry awards, grown their international distribution to 60 countries, and they aren't slowing down any time soon.

New to the Zoobie Pet collection will be Poco the Pup, Patch the Pony, and Furbie the Feline, along with several licensed Zoobie/book combo sets. The first licensed Zoobie was the Very Hungry Caterpillar, packaged with Eric Carle's board book. The reception to the classic caterpillar was completely underestimated as the initial three month supply sold out in 5 business days.

According to Zoobies Marketing VP, Ryan Treft, "We recently signed licensing agreements with more classic books such as Peter Rabbit, Paddington, and Spot the Dog. Like many of our product development ideas, making book characters was inspired by feedback from consumers. We receive several emails from parents who tell us they wrap their child up in the Zoobie blanket as they sit on their lap during story time. It only made sense to make classic book character Zoobies and package them with the book." Peter Rabbit, Paddington, and Olivia will be available this Summer, Spot this Fall.

Zoobies staff recently took a trip to Reno with a carload of Zoobies for 10 year old Ashlee Smith's non-profit group, Ashlee's Toy Closet.

According to the website, "She collects toys, books and clothes for children that have been affected by a Natural Disaster. Ashlee held her first toy drive after the Angora Fire that devastated S.Lake Tahoe in 2007. Her dad is a Firefighter and he was up fighting the fire and she wanted to help down here. She asked us to help her collect toys for all of the children. She told me that everyone helps the adults and no one helps the children. She made it very clear that the kids lost everything too. She had been involved in a house fire in 2005 where she lost all of her toys so she said she knew how the kids felt. She said 'I want to help the little victims in a big way.'"

Ashlee first saw Zoobies at the Learning Express of Reno. When we found out she "loved them" and wanted to make Zoobies her "signature item" to give to each child she works with, we were happy to help.

We are pleased to announce Lilly the Ladybug is here and ready to ship!!! Until recently we thought we'd come out with Lilly the Ladybug this Fall at the ABC Show, but we had so many requests to come out with it sooner that we decided not to wait any longer.
